As in previous years, we want to try to ensure that no-one is left alone over Christmas. So we have pulled together this page to spread the word about community events taking place across Cornwall. Some of these may need your help as a volunteer but all of them are featured because they provide opportunities - especially to older and vulnerable people - to be part of something rather than being alone.
Please note that the last date for adding information on opportunities for the Christmas period will be at noon on Thursday 20th December.
Below, are some specific and some general opportunities which may be of interest if you are thinking of giving the gift of your time this year...

Local Food Banks
It's always worth contacting your local food bank to see if they need any extra help over the Christmas period. This might range from helping with collecting or distributing food to cooking, serving, cleaning up or entertaining at specially organised Christmas parties or meals. You can find details of the Foodbanks operating in Cornwall by clicking here.
Volunteer with Miracle's front of house team for Aladdin this Christmas!
We're looking for enthusiastic people to work on our front of house team this Christmas for our production of Aladdin taking place at Falmouth's Princess Pavilion from 7 Dec - 5 Jan. We'll need strong, energetic people to help with selling programmes, raffle tickets and sweets, whilst also doing a bit of stewarding and generally being a friendly Miracle face! Sometimes this means popping on a pink t-shirt and manning our merchandise stand in the foyer, whilst other times we will need people in costume inside the auditorium to give people the feel of stepping back in time when they take their seats. We're looking for people ideally with an interest in theatre who are good with people and happy to do a bit of selling for us. You will be customer facing from beginning to end so it's important to us that you represent Miracle as being friendly, engaging and polite. Must be over 16 All performances take place at Princess Pavilion so access to the theatre is a must. Please bear in mind there will be a lot of time where you'll be on your feet.

Volunteers are needed to talk to our guests and get them tea/coffee and also serve at lunch time. Also ensuring they have support if needed to get to the lunch tables and toilets. Generally ensuring that they have a special day and go home with inner warmth and some lovely memories. Some could be involved in putting the hampers together.

Volunteers needed for Cold Weather Provision 2018 at St Petrocs - recruiting now!
Volunteers needed for Cold Weather Provision 2018 - recruiting now!
Volunteers are needed throughout the cold weather period from December to February, not just at Christmas.
This annual work of St Petrocs is vital – and without volunteers it could not happen.
The role of the Cold Weather Provision is to work with individuals who are homeless during the coldest months of winter while assisting them to identify their support and housing needs, advocating for them and helping them to access services.
We have a variety of roles we require support with over the winter period this year which require different skills and personalities, and which are available at different times of day and night.

Miracle Theatre's production of Aladdin at Princess Pavilion
Following its past sell out productions, Cornwall’s award winning Miracle Theatre is back at Princess Pavilion, with a new & not to be missed Christmas show suitable for all!
It’s Christmas 1943. For the last fifty years the Willoughby-Brown family have gathered at their country seat in Cornwall to eat, drink, laugh and bicker and, with the help of their loyal staff, to provide their own entertainment in the form of a home-made pantomime. The few guests who have been permitted to witness these rare soirées have spoken of being swept away by eccentric singing, exotic dancing, breath-taking magical effects and of being frequently moved to tears of laughter. This year, as an act of seasonal charity, the family has decided to embrace the epithet of ‘great art for everyone’. Stopping short of actually allowing the general public to soil the carpets of their splendid house, they have offered to install themselves on the stage of the Princess Pavilion, where they invite you to assemble and share their unique interpretation of the oriental fairy-tale Aladdin.
People & friends of Cornwall… brace yourselves for all the fun of traditional panto and a whole lot more!
