In detail

In this session we will explore who a volunteer is and why we need them more than they need us.  We will look at what we need to do to welcome them and provide the right environment for us to retain their loyalty and support.

“In return for their time, it’s our responsibility to provide quality volunteer opportunities and ensure volunteers get the most out of their experience.”  (NCVO)

Firstly, we need to decide why we feel a volunteer will enhance and add value to our organisation. We will start to consider how to create a volunteer recruitment plan that represents your values and gets you ready to recruit volunteers. This will include how to start thinking about not only attracting volunteers but also future retention.

Finally, Hayley, one of our Community Volunteer Coordinators will offer some insider knowledge of local examples where volunteers have been successfully recruited and more importantly retained.

We will finish with a Top Tips takeaway for your next volunteer recruitment.

By the end of the session, you will have a clearer understanding of what a volunteer is (and isn’t), how they can add value to your organisation and consideration for what may work best for you when recruiting.

Delivered by

Volunteer Cornwall have been recruiting and supporting volunteers within the VCSE sector for over 40 years.  As a values driven organisation, we understand their needs and their true value.  We have continued to offer a FREE space for VCSE organisations to promote their volunteering locally with over 3000 opportunities posted in the last few years from 458 organisations.

Marianne Wright - Training and Development Manager

I have been at Volunteer Cornwall for nearly 20 years and have a wide experience working with and training volunteers.  As the Training and Development manager my role is twofold.  I offer support to those in the VCSE sector who manage volunteers with advice and the delivery of Leadership and Management qualifications from ILM.   For volunteers I offer support with essential skills training to meet the needs of the organisation they are volunteering with.

Hayley Bentley - Community Volunteer Coordinator.

We support organisations across the Community Hub Network and not-for-profit organisations to build and sustain their volunteer capacity. Through an enquiry-led approach, we provide tailored advice and guidance to help organisations strengthen recruitment, improve retention and continue responding effectively to local need.
