Transform Ageing is a pioneering programme taking a design-led approach to improving people’s experience of ageing. Funded by the Big Lottery Fund, this new cross-sector initiative will bring together people in later life, social entrepreneurs and health and social care leaders to define, develop and deliver new solutions that better support the needs and aspirations of our ageing communities.  The programme will initially convene people in later life and their friends and families, with health and social care leaders and social entrepreneurs in Cornwall.

You can read much more detail about the programme as part of a recent interview with the Design Council Programme Manager here - interviewed Charlotte Burrows

By placing people in later life at the heart of the design process, the programme aims to actively engage their insight, thereby increasing their influence and support to deliver solutions which will better meet their needs. In turn, Transform Ageing will support commissioners to feel more confident in incorporating new services and interventions into mainstream care supply chains and social entrepreneurs to scale their effective solutions more sustainably.

The Transform Ageing programme is being delivered through a partnership led by Design Council, alongside UnLtd - the Foundation for Social Entrepreneurs, the South West Academic Health Science Network (SW AHSN) and the Centre for Ageing Better.  The local element is provided by Volunteer Cornwall as the delivery organisation and was launched back in April.

We have now undertaken four workshops with participants from those in later life, support workers, social entrepreneurs and health and social care.  The next stage will see the amalgamation of the research outputs from those workshops to theme and review the data into innovation briefs for social entrepreneurs to bid to provide solutions.  Key dates going forward are:

We will be sharing the results of this work and inviting feedback on the draft innovation briefs with workshop participants across the south-west. We would like to invite any interested Cornwall participants to join us at 10pm – 12pm. The venue is Volunteer Cornwall, Acorn House, Truro.

18 September
UnLtd will be running a session at the Pool Innovation Centre for social entrepreneurs or potential social entrepreneurs who are considering applying for funding.  Please contact Sam Alford at samalford@unltd.org.uk or on 07860 595912
