To celebrate Volunteers Week 2019, the Training Team at Volunteer Cornwall held an Open Day event where we were joined by some great people to celebrate National Volunteers Week. We had lots of fantastic conversations about the great work volunteers do!

Ian our chief executive at Volunteer Cornwall talks about National Volunteering Week, how he would like us to celebrate volunteering every day of the year and shares his thanks to all of the amazing work that the volunteers around Cornwall do.
We were joined by Kerry and Maggie, two of the wonderful staff members at Cornwall Hospice Care during our open day event for National Volunteers Week. They shared with us some of the volunteer roles that they have within their charity, what volunteers mean to Cornwall Hospice Care and what benefits volunteering can provide. Natalie is a Community Engagement Co-ordinator with Addaction where staff and volunteers help people who have come to them for support with their addictions. She joined us to celebrate National Volunteers Week and spoke to us about what volunteers mean to Addaction and the difference that they make to the charity. Tom used to be a client of Addaction’s services and after having a positive experience with the charity, decided to become a volunteer to help others in the way that he had been supported by Addaction. We were joined for our National Volunteers Week open day event by Simon, the founder and director of Drama Express. He spoke to us about the work that the charity does to enable young people with complex disabilities to access the performing arts and how Drama Express has fantastic volunteers who make this happen. Drama Express has recently won the Queen’s Award for Volunteering 2019 and how the charity would love to have more volunteers join them to continue the amazing work that they do.
