Here's a short video from the winner of the 'Volunteer Driver' category at the 2015 Cornwall Celebrates Volunteering Awards, explaining why he undertakes volunteer driving and what he gets out of it:
Volunteer Cornwall’s transport schemes can always use more volunteers. Whether you are interested in driving members of the public on a daily basis, or becoming a trained up minibus driver and helping other charities and organisations we would love to hear from you.
Within a short time of volunteering with us you will be making a real difference in peoples’ lives for the better and be able to see the impact that you are having on your community.
If you volunteer with us we will provide you with a proper induction, we will provide you with training in driving with passengers, and will provide Safeguarding training.
We do reimburse volunteer drivers for the mileage that they do while driving for us. This rate is limited to 42p per mile but many of our volunteers find, particularly if they drive an economical car, and drive carefully that this mileage rate can help to pay for the upkeep of their vehicle, keeping them on the road.
