YV is a volunteering project for young people aged from 11-25 years. It is specifically designed for those who have mental health problems, SEND or are disengaged from their communities. YV gives young people the opportunity to learn more about volunteering either through our group offer to design and deliver their own project, or our one to one provision which supports 13-16-year olds who need guidance and help in finding a volunteering placement.
Working with schools, colleges and other groups of young people, we will support students to create their own volunteering project to benefit the community. This programme will typically include an introductory session about what volunteering is, discussion groups focusing on causes they would like to support and skills they would like to develop. We will then support the group to put together and run an event, with a final evaluation meeting to assess how the project went and what was achieved. Although designed to be completed in a half term, this can be extended to fit in with other commitments or allow the group more time for planning and making.
The one-to-one support will be aimed at young people struggling with their mental health or other conditions including SEND. This strand is referral only and will involve a named worker supporting the young person to consider the benefits or experience they want to gain from volunteering and what adjustments they might need to access a placement. Working with each individual young person suitable placements will be identified, and initial meetings or taster sessions then arranged. This will be followed by a regular review policy.
YV will also promote volunteering to young people in general through schools and college careers fairs, talks and workshops delivered at other events.
To make a referral please complete either a group referral form (11 – 25) or a YV referral form (13 – 25) for an individual or a self-referral.
If the referral form is for an individual young person U16, please also complete (post or scan via e-mail) and return the Parental Consent too.
