As in previous years, we want to try to ensure that no-one is left alone over Christmas. So we have pulled together this page to spread the word about community events taking place across Cornwall. Some of these may need your help as a volunteer but all of them are featured because they provide opportunities - especially to older and vulnerable people - to be part of something rather than being alone.

Contact us at [email protected], telephone 01872 265307 or use our online contact form to share details of your planned activities for us to add to the page.

Please note that the last date for adding information on opportunities for the Christmas period will be at noon on Thursday 21st December.

Below, are some specific and some general opportunities which may be of interest if you are thinking of giving the gift of your time this year...

Christmas Volunteering Opportunities

Local Food Banks

It's always worth contacting your local food bank to see if they need any extra help over the Christmas period. This might range from helping with collecting or distributing food to cooking, serving, cleaning up or entertaining at specially organised Christmas parties or meals. You can find details of the Foodbanks operating in Cornwall by clicking here.

Volunteers are required throughout the whole cold weather period from November - February, not just Christmas.

The role of the Cold Weather Provision is to work with individuals who are homeless during the coldest months of winter while assisting them to identify their support and housing needs, advocating for them and helping them to access services. Please see below for details and specifics required (there may be some crossover of duties between roles):

  1. General Support (shifts between 9am-9pm)
  2. Back Room Buddy (9am-9.30pm)
  3. Evening Welcome Assistant (7pm-11pm)
  4. Overnight Support Assistant (8pm-7.30am)
  5. Donations Sorting Support (shifts between 9am-7pm)
  6. Cake baker (home-based preparation for drop off in Truro)
