Getting To Grips With The New Role After two years with Welcome Home I will be soon hanging up my Welcome Home hat for good. I've enjoyed working on Welcome Home. Sometimes the work can be difficult and it can on occasion feel like a thankless task, but I've never lost sight of the fact that we are doing good work and I am proud of the hundreds of people we have supported with their discharges over the past few years. It is however time for me to move on to a new chapter in my life, and I am delighted to be taking on the role of Corporate Volunteering Officer here with Volunteer Cornwall. It's never easy to start a new role, and at times, it can seem like a daunting task with lots of new information learn and new contacts to make. Thankfully this transition is being eased by new my manager, whose previously role is the very one I am taking over. My new job involves finding volunteering opportunities for groups who want to volunteer for a single day. In the past we have been able to find placements for people with groups including Kehelland and Abbeyfields. These are great days out for groups who get involved in some fantastic hands on activities including painting, gardening and even helping to pack christmas shoe boxes. The feedback I've seen from past groups of volunteers is always positive, its a refreshing change of pace from their usual busy schedule and nearly all the volunteers plan to come back to volunteer again. One thing I will need to do in my new post will be to find as wide range of options for groups to choose from for their day of volunteering. So this is an appeal, from me to any groups out there, if you think you could host a group of people who want to volunteer for a single day, please leave a comment below this blog. The activity could be anything, it could be a day's volunteering on an on going project, or it could be a day to complete one large task. If there is anything you think we could help with send me a message and lets see what we can do.
