Your Data

Volunteer Cornwall understands that your privacy, whether you are a volunteer or someone using our services, is very important. We know that in the course of our work we might ask you to share information with us that you do not wish other people to know and that you may have questions about what we will do with it.

As a general principle Volunteer Cornwall only uses your information for the purposes that you shared it with us.

If you sign up with us as a volunteer for a particular project we will only contact you about that project unless you tell us that you are interested in other work we do.

If you use one of our services then we will not share that information with anyone else outside of the project without speaking to you about it first.

We do not use your information for any activities which are not directly connected with the work in which you are interested.

Generally Volunteer Cornwall does not hold a lot of information about anyone beyond the basics of names, addresses, contact information and dates of birth as well as information about what volunteering they do, or what services they have accessed. Of course, even this sort of information should be kept secure and accurate. All information that people share with Volunteer Cornwall is held securely on password protected systems and is only accessible by the staff members who have a genuine reason to see it.

We regularly work with other organisations and the arrangements that we have with them mean that we need to share information. Where this is the case we will tell you about it and there are links below to particular areas of our work where this occurs.

Although we think that we deal with your information fairly it does not necessarily mean that you will always agree. It is your right to ask us what information we keep about you and to check that it is accurate. Where we only hold information about you with your consent then you can also ask us to delete that information, or to make it hidden from staff other than for audit purposes. There is a lot of regulation and guidance relating to how any organisation handles your personal information. If you are interested in the details please have a look at our Information Charter which is a technical document and not necessarily written in Plain English, we are very happy to talk to you about this in person if that helps.
