Further to our previous announcement concerning the closure, on 31st March 2017, of the Truro Shopmobility Scheme Volunteer Cornwall can now confirm that it will provide a limited weekday service for existing members for the next three months while members find alternative ways of getting around the City Centre. Owing to staffing concerns this service will only be available during the week and between 1000hrs and 1500hrs

These arrangements will be managed by Volunteer Cornwall’s Community Transport team from the charity’s office in Newham. The Shopmobility office at Moorfield Car Park will not be open at all after 31st March. Volunteer Cornwall will honour any bookings during April which are made by members before the end of March, If you think that you will require a scooter during April please let us know no later than 1600hrs on Friday 31st March.

In addition, until the end of June we will make scooters available in central Truro to any members experiencing particular hardship due to the closure of the scheme, for instance if a member has an appointment in the city centre which they need to attend but will be difficult for them to get to without access to a scooter. Since the Shopmobility office will be closed all arrangements need to be made through Volunteer Cornwall’s Community Transport Team and because a member of staff will need to be available to meet you with the scooter 24 hours notice will be needed other than in very exceptional circumstances.

Because of the limitations on the service we are able to offer Volunteer Cornwall will not be charging for the use of scooters under the transition arrangements and the scheme itself will not impact upon the refund of members’ Shopmobility subscription fees which we are currently processing.

We appreciate that the temporary scheme is considerably reduced compared to the Shopmobility scheme’s previous operations, Volunteer Cornwall is operating this temporary scheme following the closure of Truro Shopmobility from it’s own operational resources solely to mitigate the immediate impact of the closure of the main scheme and some limitations on the service that we can offer are inevitable.
