My First Blog

Hello my name is Matthew I’m 26 years old and I have a visual impairment and I am autistic. I have been volunteering here at Volunteer Cornwall for a few years. I help out with some of the databases and do research on the Internet to help the staff at Volunteer Cornwall.

How I got in to taking part in Special Olympics.

A few years ago now Terry (the VIVA project manager at the time) came round my house to chat with me and my mum about volunteering and the subject of Special Olympics came up.

I thought  "why not?",  it would get me playing sport with people with disabilities and playing football - which I love.

The next month, or whenever the next Special Olympics was, I went there and signed up to it. I got a Special Olympics t shirt and then, for the 3 hours the session lasted,  played football and I really enjoyed it.

Now I’m playing for Chacewater Ability Counts team as well as going to Special Olympics once a month, at Truro College.

How do I take part in this?

There are Special Olympics forms to fill out and be brought in when it’s the next meeting.

How do I contact Special Olympics?

You can contact Special Olympics via their website and they will get back to you
