So you think you are a safe driver? So you think you are a safe driver? How would you rate your driving skills? For instance, are you confident in spotting possible hazards ahead? Do you know the speed limits on our roads? How familiar are you with seat belt law? Amongst the courses we run at Volunteer Cornwall is one that is aimed at ensuring our volunteer drivers are competent and safe. As we have around 200 drivers who transport people around the county (for example on school runs and hospital visits), we need to be confident that they are safe and considerate drivers. This course is however not restricted to our own drivers! Other organisations can send their drivers on this course; in fact, anyone who is keen to drive more safely would be very welcome to enrol. The MiDAS Car and MPV Driver Training course is a one-day programme aimed at drivers of cars and multi-purpose vehicles. It covers such areas as defensive driving, hazard awareness, speed limits and health and safety. The course is split into two parts. The morning is mainly theory with lots of opportunity for discussion – followed by a short multi-choice test. The afternoon is based on a 1-1 individual observed drive that lasts around 20 minutes. This is NOT a driving test – simply a chance to show us how safe and considerate a driver you are! Many of those who have attended this course have felt that they have learned most from the discussion topics. We run these courses at various centres throughout the county – so there should be something near to your home. Earlier this week we ran the course in Liskeard and the group found it really useful and beneficial. If you would like more details just click here. We look forward to seeing you!
