I worked for Volunteer Cornwall over a period of two weeks as a temp and being fairly new to Cornwall, I was unaware of the organisation and what it stood for. As time went on, my understanding grew. It was a massive breath of fresh air to work with a company whose values were of a very similar nature to mine and an overall objective which I could relate too.

During my two weeks, I was asked to help organise an event in Penzance for Goldsmiths, University of London, called the Civil Society Futures Enquiry. This involved booking a venue, arranging catering and sending out invitations to volunteers, charities, voluntary & community groups active in the Penzance area so they could come along and have their say on the role of civil society in the future.

I thoroughly enjoyed doing this as I believe that it was for a really worthy cause and I was thrilled to be a part of it. I was able to witness the community in Penzance - different charities and organisations - come together to discuss their town, the concerns they have and all the positive things about Penzance they wanted to share. It was great to perceive different views and witness individuals listen to one another.

I feel privileged to have been a part of Volunteer Cornwall and hope my short time will have some lasting impact for the voluntary sector in Cornwall and beyond.
