Colum and I were both invited to a lovely lunch at the Orchard on Wednesday 24th August to celebrate the success of the Big Lottery funding announced that very day, and to catch up on all the recent developments at the site. As it had been some time since either of us had visited it was great to see the progress made. The woodworking area, the compost toilets, the planned ampitheatres, the growing spaces, the work being done with the local schools were all very impressive. 

It was also great to hear more about their ongoing volunteer programme. They are still looking to welcome volunteers, and lead volunteers, from all backgrounds to join. 

The programme itself involves going along to Newquay Community Orchard and getting stuck in alongside their existing passionate volunteers. Before starting, you and the programme leader will agree on a Personal Development Plan, this can be tailored to your needs, whether you are interested in horticulture, woodwork or just want to get out there and try your hand at some new skills. There is even the possibility to get involved with workshops, such as healthy eating and CV writing.
