Alongside the Design Council, UnLtd, South West Academic Science Health Network & the Centre for Ageing Better - Volunteer Cornwall hosted the Cornish launch of the Big Lottery funded 'Transform Ageing' programme. I was acting as Master of Ceremonies for the day and introduced the audience to the three F's - Find out more about Transform Ageing; Feedback - tell us what you think and then we'll reward you with a Feast!

I suppose I should start by explaining that Transform Ageing takes a design-led approach to improving people's experience of Ageing. It brings together people in later life, social entrepreneurs and health and care leaders to define, develop and deliver new solutions that better support the needs and aspirations of our ageing communities.

After meeting the representatives of the main partners, we heard first from a social entrepreneur from Devon - Libby from the Filo Project - which provides individually tailored care & support for older people. Then we heard a personal account of some of the challenges (and opportunities) faced by older people in Cornwall from Judith Whiteley.

A quick run-down of the interactive elements of the afternoon followed before I made good on the 3rd of my 'F's' - Feasting. As people tucked into a fantastic savoury afternoon tea, they began to mingle and talk and they shared their thoughts and views on what some of the challenges are that we face. But happily, there were also plenty of people on hand with ideas about how we might tackle some of those challenges.

And by the end of the two hour session, we were up to our ears in great ideas, feedback and enthusiasm. We now need to go through it all and follow up on the links and leads from today. Apart from a few minor sound issues at the start (yes, the IT gremlins struck again!) the feedback was overwhelmingly positive and the next stage will be the four co-design workshops starting in June.
