250 Things that make Britain Great

Best of British magazine has named volunteers as the number one thing that makes Britain great, in a list of 250 Things That Make Britain Great, published in its May issue.

The list was compiled with input from readers, contributors and staff to celebrate the 250th issue of the nostalgia magazine.

The list also recognises at least 24 charities. Macmillan is the highest ranked charity at number 13, followed by RNLI at 14.

Your county needs YOU

There are lots of uniformed youth services across Cornwall - Brownies, Guides, Cubs, Scouts, St John Ambulance as well as Air, Sea, Army, Police and Fire Cadets. All of them have one thing in common - they all require adult volunteers in order to function.

That's why we've made May our 'Uniformed Youth Volunteering' month. We are looking for adult volunteers like you to support your local uniformed youth group.

Visit our webpage to find out more.

April Round-Up

We made April our 'Cultural Volunteering' month because we wanted to raise awareness of all the amazing volunteering opportunities that exist in the cultural volunteering sector. You can still read our article on cultural volunteering on our webpage and maybe find the perfect opportunity for you through do-it?

We also started April with the launch of Cornwall Celebrates Volunteering 2017. You have from now until the end of August to nominate a volunteer and/or host organisation you think deserves recognition for their efforts.

Later in the month, we launched two new initiatives on successive days. Firstly, the launch of Transform Ageing - a design-led approach to improving the experience of getting older in Cornwall.

The very next day, we launched the Volunteer Cornwall Academy - offering an enhanced range of support to individuals and organisations who choose to use Volunteer Cornwall for their training needs.

If you missed either launch, you can read more on our blogs - Transform Ageing and the VC Academy

We also have a number of new vacancies to advertise over the coming days & weeks so keep an eye on our 'Vacancies' page

If it's Monday, we must be launching.....

Transform Ageing is a pioneering programme taking a design-led approach to improving people’s experience of ageing. Funded by the Big Lottery Fund, this new cross-sector initiative will bring together people in later life, social entrepreneurs and health and social care leaders to define, develop and deliver new solutions that better support the needs and aspirations of our ageing communities.

You can find out more from our webpage where we will also keep you up-to-date as the project develops.
