Do you Moodle?

 Volunteer Cornwall would like to introduce you to Moodle.  Moodle is a Virtual Learning Environment or VLE.  In plain English this can be loosely translated as a “computerised classroom” but rather than using paper-based materials it allows images, audio and video files, electronic documents and web content to be made available from anywhere you can access a computer.  This allows for a much more interactive way of learning than traditional classroom-based activities.

Volunteer Cornwall is using Moodle to complement its existing training courses.  When you enrol on a training course  or workshop you will also be enrolled on the Moodle site.   Various materials and activities will be made available to you throughout the course duration and for a limited period after you have finished.  A forum is available for courses so you can leave messages for other members of your course. If you are on a longer course such as PTLLS, this is an ideal way to keep in touch and discuss the course topics with the other learners in your class.

Even if you are a computer novice, Moodle makes it easy for you to find your way around.  The layout is also designed so that once you’ve worked your way around one course, future ones will follow the same format leaving you to concentrate on the content that you’re interested in.

The site is currently being updated to add more courses and learning providers.  You are welcome to have a look at the Moodle site without being enrolled on a course.  Click here to go straight to our Moodle site . 

You will see on the front page that there are a range of training providers already listed from the Voluntary and Community Sector.  There is also a selection of other community groups and partnerships that will offer various activities.    These areas will be updated in the next few months to bring you a wider range of learning opportunities. 

Get to know Moodle now

To create a new account click the link on the left to “Create A New Account”.   After you’ve registered, have a look for the course called “Getting to know Moodle” which will show you what the course pages on Moodle will look like.
