The 2011 Cornwall Celebrates Volunteering Awards were held at the Falmouth Hotel on 28th October. From the hundreds of nominations we received, we shortlisted down to just 3 names per category. Those shortlisted plus their guests and nominators were joined by last years winners, sponsors and civic leaders to hear the results. You can see the winners and highly commended for yourself below. Each had their prizes presented by the category sponsor and the Lord Lieutenant, Col Edward Bolitho. We were all kept to time by our marvellous compere, BBC Radio Cornwall’s Daphne Skinnard.

The final award was the Volunteer of the Year – 2011 (kindly sponsored by Falmouth Hotel) and this always presents the panel with a really tough choice but this year’s winner was Daniel Broad, winner of the Volunteer Learner Category.

The Host of the Year – 2011 (kindly sponsored by the Health Promotion Service) was won by one of last year’s runners up – The National Maritime Museum.

Thank you to all our guests and thank you to everyone who submitted a nomination. All those nominated will receive a certificate but we would just like to say that this event is first and foremost about raising awareness of the amazing work done by ALL volunteers. We would love to give you all prizes but sadly we aren’t able. But what we can do, is show people just how important volunteers are to the life of our county and ensure you are not taken for granted.

Finally, we would like to apologise to last year’s winners for the technical issues which prevented us showing your film clips as intended but you can now watch them by visiting the Volunteer Cornwall YouTube Channel (click here for a handy link). We will send out copies to you all in the next few weeks and we very much hope it didnt spoil your enjoyment of the day.
